These Photos of a Mother Who Carries Her Son on Her Back on His Way to School Everyday Will Touch Your Heart (A DepEd Forum Exclusive)

It’s not everyday that you see a scenario like this, a mother who carries her son on her back on his way to school. But when you do, you’ll surely be touched. That’s what exactly happened to Ma’am Cristy Almeida, a high school teacher at San Pedro Relocation Center National High School, San Pedro, Laguna.

On Thursday, March 10, 2016, Ms. Almeida posted this heart-warming photos on her Facebook account which has been quickly shared around the social networking site. On her post, she said that:

THIS SCENARIO TOUCHED MY HEART BIG TIME.

THIS STUDENT HAS A LOVING MOTHER WHO CARES MUCH ABOUT HER SON’S EDUCATION. SHE LITERALLY CARRIES HIM ON HER BACK EVERYDAY.
IF THIS CHILD, DESPITE HAVING A BROKEN LEG, ATTENDS HIS CLASSES REGULARLY, THEN, WHY CAN’T OTHER STUDENTS DO THE SAME WHEN THEY DON’T EXPERIENCE SUCH DIFFICULTY?

HOPEFULLY, THIS CAN INSPIRE ALL THE STUDENTS, MOST ESPECIALLY, THE SPRCNHIGHNERS.

On our exclusive interview with Ms. Almeida, she revealed to us that she had already seen the mother and the child a week before but it was only then when she had the chance to capture it. She also added that after taking the photos, she became teary-eyed.

The child on the photos is Patrick Nobleza, a Grade 7 student at San Pedro Relocation Center National High School, the same school where Ms. Almeida teaches. According to Ms. Almeida, Patrick had his left leg broken. During lunch, Patrick’s parents never forget to bring him his meal. His father even made an improvised crutch for his son. We have also learned that once in a while, it is Patrick’s sister who helps him go to school.

What’s more interesting is that Patrick isn’t in a top section or a SPED class, nor is he running for honors. He’s just there, willing to learn.

What to Appreciate

There are two things to appreciate from this story. First, the willingness and the determination of Patrick to learn and the fact the he did not let his injury hinder him from going to school.

Secondly, the unconditional love of the parents to support their child in every possible means. The way they value education is something remarkable and something to emulate for.

The Morals

On the sad note, there are students who are fortunate enough to have all the conveniences in life and all the things they need but lack the interest to learn from school or to finish their studies.

As for other parents out there who treat their children’s education as the least in their priorities, let this be an example to you.

For us teachers, let this story be a manifestation that there’s still hope for the future. That in each of our classes, there could be one like Patrick Nobleza. We just have to continue in challenging our students to strive for learning and to do their best to help them become all that God created them to be.

I hope that this story inspired you. If it does, please do share it with the others.

We extend our gratitude to Ma’am Cristy Almeida for allowing us to share her photos and for granting us the interview. God bless your kind heart Ma’am.
